Abstract

1,161,814. Resilient couplings. H. J. NEIDHART and R. NEIDHART. 7 Dec., 1966 [8 Dec., 1965], No. 54853/66. Addition to 1,072,107. Heading F2S. A method of assembling torsionally elastic connecting elements as claimed in Claim 1 of the parent Specification is characterized in that additional mechanical retaining members are provided which act upon the elastomeric members and upon the rigid part on which they are initially arranged without preload. As shown a pin 2 is pushed through the upper end of each rubber member 1 so that its ends rest upon the edge of the outer tube 3 the projecting end of the rubber member, with the pin 2, being cut off after the inner part of the connecting element has been installed. All of the rubber members can be connected by a suitably shaped single wire, e.g. a substantially circular wire (2), Fig. 3, not shown. Alternatively, one wire can connect a group of two, or more, rubber members. In another arrangement pins (2), Fig. 2, not shown, extend through holes in the wall of the outer part and penetrate only partly into the rubber members, a plug (4) being inserted temporarily as a hold-up while the pins (2) are being driven into the rubber members. The pins can be provided with heads such as rivet heads, or small handles, and they may be held jointly e.g. by an encircling band (5), Fig. 5, not shown. The pins can be left in position after assembly. Retaining members, such as cylindrical, or spherical, rolling elements (8), Fig. 6 (not shown), can be accommodated in recesses in the inner and outer parts, alternatively the rubber members may be provided with projections such as (9, 10), Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), to engage in the recesses formed respectively on the outer and inner surfaces of the inner and outer members. The projections may be glued into the recesses or, have a force fit relationship.
