Abstract

1,091,121. Universal joints. BENDIX CORPORATION. Feb. 8, 1965 [Feb. 13, 1964] No. 5448/65. Heading F2U. A flexible coupling between driven and driving connectors 13, 23 comprises two identical flexible diaphragm assemblies 11, 12 and a rigid member 17. The diaphragms 43, 51 and 51, 59 are welded or brazed together at 47, 53 and 55, 57 respectively whilst diaphragm 43 is connected at 41 to a dish 29 and diaphragm 59 is connected at 61 to member 17. A tubular member 33, which with dish 29 is connected to connector 13, carries an antifriction bearing 75 spaced from a tubular part 69 connected to member 17 so that should a diaphragm fail the bearing 75 and part 69 prevent whipping and separation since radial movement is limited.
