Abstract

1,161,792. Determining filtration characteristics. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 13 April, 1967 [20 May, 1966], No.22681/66. Heading B1X. A filtration characteristic of a suspension of one or more solids in a liquid or of a filter cake produced from the suspension, for example the specific resistance of the suspension to filtration, is determined by placing a sample of the suspension in contact with a porous filter member and measuring the rate at which the filtrate ,passes into the filter member. In the apparatus shown, suspension is poured into reservoir 26 and filtrate flows outwardly in filter member 22. Probe 30 is earthed while probes 31, 32 are connected to time recording device 34 in circuits which are completed when filtrate reaches one of the probes. In the apparatus of Fig. 1, (not shown), filter paper 12 is supported between upper and lower discs (11), (10). Disc (11) is transparent and has central reservoir (13) for the. suspension and a lower annular recess (15) having concentric markings which may be used for visual observation of the filtrate flow.
