Abstract

1,161,609. Non-caking fertilizers. MIDLAND SILICONES Ltd. 25 Oct., 1967 [15 Nov., 1966], No. 51206/66. Headings C1A and C1B. [Also in Divisions C2 and C4] A granular or prilled fertilizer is coated with oil and an organosilicon compound, the coating composition being applied as an aerosol spray. The fertilizer may be a single substance or a composition; may contain ammonium nitrate, potassium chloride, urea, or a phosphate; and may have a particle size of 1-6 mm. The oil may be fuel, lubricating, vegetable, or tar oil. The oil may have a viscosity of 50-10,000 cS. at 25‹ C. The organosilicon compound may be dimethyldichloro, methyldichloro, propyltrichloro, phenylmethyldichloro, methyltrichloro, methyltrimethoxy, phenyltripropoxy, or dimethyldiethoxy silane; or methylhydrogen, phenylmethyl, or dimethyl polysiloxane. The coating may form 0À005-5% of the fertilizer. The silicon compound may form up to 90% of the coating.
