Spring devices.-In a spring frame for cycles &c. wherein a wheel frame pivoted low down on the main frame is connected to the upper part of the main frame by one or more links having a sliding connexion with the main frame or with the wheal frame, the links are provided with a duplex system of springing wherein one or more light springs are first compressed or put in tension, and then a main spring operates to absorb the main shock or load, minor shocks or a light load being taken by the light springs. As shown in Fig. 1, links 1, pivoted at 3 to the main frame and slidably connected at 4 to the wheel frame 5, carry light springs 7, 13 and strong springs 6, 14, the springs 6, 7 serving to take up main shocks and the springs 13, 14 the reaction. Sliding abutments 8 may be provided between the strong and light springs, and either one or both of the abutments for each light spring may have projections 9, 10 serving to limit the compression of the spring. One or more of the helical springs may be replaced by a spring of a different kind. Thus, rubber buffers, a cee-spring, a laminated spring anchored to the main frame, or a coil spring arranged at right-angles to the links and with levering-arm ends may be used instead of the strong spring 6. Or, as shown in Fig. 10, a leaf spring 40 may be connected to a telescopic link 29 having attached to its two ends a helical spring 30, the spring 40 serving to take main shocks and reactions and the spring 30 minor shocks and reactions. The spring 40 may be semi-elliptic or quarter-elliptic, and may be arranged to function as a cantilever spring. Specification 16743/15 is referred to.
