Abstract

1,160,614. Emptying sacks. WELVO N.V. 28 June, 1967 [1 July, 1966], No. 29869/67. Heading B8C. A sack emptying device comprises parallel lances which pierce the sack adjacent its ends while a knife severs the sack wall between the ends, the lances blowing air into the sack portions to assist in discharging the contents. Sacks 10 are advanced to a position 10a by conveyers 7, 8 to be checked by a stop 9. The lances 5(a-#) and 5(a<SP>1</SP>-#<SP>1</SP>) are mounted on intermittently contra-rotating wheels 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, radial sack supports 6(a-#), 6(a<SP>1</SP>-#<SP>1</SP>) being arranged between adjacent lances on each wheel. In the halted position of the wheels, a pair of lances at positions 5a, 5<SP>1</SP>a, as shown, impale a sack pushed on to them by a ram 18, the sack being then carried by aligned supports 6a, 6<SP>1</SP>a. A rotatable knife 11 on a carriage 12, moves parallel with the lances to cut the sack in two. The wheels now rotate to carry the severed halves downwards, intermittent blasts from the lances assisting discharge of the contents into a hopper 27. Finally, strippers in the form of collars slideable along the lances, Fig. 4 (not shown), eject the empty bag halves. The lances may be adjusted radially on the wheels, to accommodate various sizes of bag.
