Abstract
1,160,580. Ammonium sulphate. STAMICARBON N.V. 8 Dec., 1966 [9 Dec., 1965], No. 55098/66. Heading C1A. In the preparation of caprolactam from cyclohexanone oxime in a sulphuric acid medium the crude reaction product is neutralized with ammonia and the crude lactam oil, which separates from the aqueous phase, is removed. The aqueous phase which contains less than 25 wt. % based on the sulphate, of organic components which are solid at room temperature is evaporated to dryness, heated for at least one hour at 175-250‹ C., and the residue extracted with water to provide an aqueous solution from which ammonium sulphate is crystallized.
