A combine harvester is provided with pick-up means comprising tine-carrying bars 25 transversely mounted on moving endless chains 23 so that when the harvester is driven forward, the tines T are in contact with the crop to be cut, and particularly in the case of laid or damaged corn, present it efficiently to the cutter &c. of the harvester. The chains 23 are driven in the sense of arrow X by sprockets 22, and are supported at their outer ends by idler sprockets 21. Both sets of sprockets are mounted on a cantilever pick-up frame 16 which pivots about trunnion mountings 15 at the lower end of a sub-frame 10, which is in turn pivoted about a fulcrum 13 on a main frame. Hydraulic cylinders 14, 20 act on the sub-frame 10 and the pick-up frame 16 respectively, enabling the vertical position and inclination of the pick-up frame in relation to the ground to be adjusted. The mountings for the crossbars 25 allow limited angular movement, lever arms 26 attached to the cross-bars 25 being pivotally connected to the chains 23. The outer pairs of arms 26 have rollers (31), Fig. 4 (not shown), for engagement with cam tracks represented by the dot- and-dash line 30 so that the cross-bars 25 are maintained in a position in which the tines T project downwardly during their forward movement towards the table of the harvester, resulting in the maximum raking effect. A beater device is provided comprising a rotating shaft 35 carrying arms 36, in order to pull any straw which becomes entrained in the pick-up means.
