Abstract

[Also in Division B8] In a self-propelled self-loading vehicle comprising a loading platform supported by the vehicle chassis 5, a conveyer duct 10 communicating at one end with one end of the loading platform and having at its other end means 9, 8 for picking up material from the ground and displacing it through the duct 10, and a prime mover 13 operatively connected to propel the vehicle and actuate the loading means, the prime mover 13 is mounted in the chassis 5 between the duct 10 and the loading platform with part of it extending above the platform level covered by a removable casing 14 which forms a smoothly curving upwardly convex prolongation of the duct 10. The upper run of an endless scraper chain 16 forms the loading platform. The prime mover 13 as shown is a transversely disposed engine which drives the wheels 7 through a unit-mounted gear-box 19, a belt 22, chain, or cardan shaft, a distribution gear-box 20, cardan shafts 21 and differential gears 6. An infinitely-variable gear may be provided before the distributer gearing 20.
