Abstract
115,930. Goddard, M. E., (Baker, E.). June 15, 1917. Pliers and the like.-A hand-tool for removing piston-rings &c. comprises a pair of plier-like handles A, B pivoted together at C, the handle A being formed with a flat head D carrying an integral or attached ring E adapted to be passed over the piston N. On the ring E are two flat spring fingers F which are inserted under the piston-ring 0 to be removed. An inclined tooth or stop G, fixed on and projecting inside the ring E, enters the gap between the ends of the ring 0, and a tooth H on a piece I, guided by a rib J and groove K to slide on the head D, also enters the gap. The piece I has a slot-and-pin connexion L with the extension M of the handle B, so that when the handles A, B are pressed together, the teeth G, H engage the ends of the ring O and expand it into the shouldered recess of the ring E, and the whole may be removed together from the piston. The ring E may be made expansible and adjustable to fit different sizes of piston.
