Abstract

1,159,167. Grinding. METABOWERKE K.G. CLOSS, RAUCH & SCHNIZLER. 6 March, 1967 [23 March, 1966], No. 10402/67. Heading B3D. A grinding apparatus comprises a grinding belt 7 guided over pulleys 3, 4, 6 and an applicator part 12 which partially engages the back 14 of the belt and is rotatable about a spindle perpendicular to its end face. The belt is driven by pulley 3 and tensioned and guided by pulley 6 on a beam 8 secured to post 5 and acted on by compressed air device 10. The applicator part 12 is carried by shaft 28 mounted in a cup 38 secured to a plate 37 mounted on a rod 34 in turn carried by arms from a carrier 31 on a shaft 30, adjustable stops 33 being provided to adjust the carrier. The shaft 30 is rotatably mounted in a sleeve 29 secured to a beam 16 attached to a link 17, 18 supported by a parallel linkage 26, 27 from a fixed link 25 and urged downwardly by a compressed air device 20. The lower face 15 of the part 12 which engages the back of the grinding belt consists of radial ribs which increase in depth with increase in radius. The disc is disposed so that only a sector engages the belt and is rotated thereby. Rollers 49, 49<SP>1</SP> assist in guiding the belt over the plate.
