Abstract

1,158,759. Circuits responding to particular signals. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 6 April, 1967 [13 April, 1966], No. 15791/67. Heading G4H. [Also in Division H4] An impulse pair detector for use in radio navigation comprises a shift register 7 to which the first pulse is applied, the shift register being driven by clock pulses from source HD and the outputs 8 from the stages thereof being gated at 9.1, 9.2 &c. with the input line 4b to give a signal when one of the shift register output coincides with an input pulse. When a pulse pair is detected a second source of clock pulses HC and a second group of gates 10.0, 10.1 &c. is coupled to the shift register to generate a modulated reply signal. The input at 1 is applied via gate 2 and/or gate 5 to the shift register. An input pulse, whether one of a valid pair, or a spurious pulse will enter a " 1 " in the shift register and set flip-flop 16. This energizes the third input to gates 9.1 &c. and unblocks gate 14 so that pulses from source HD are applied to stop the register. If a second pulse coincides with the "1" in an appropriate stage of the shift register or gate 9.1 &c. gives an output to set flip-flop 24, closing gate 2 and preventing any more pulses reaching the shift register. A spurious pulse, which is not followed at the proper interval by another pulse passes to the end of the shift register and at output F resets the circuit to its initial condition. The signal on line 25 also resets flip-flop 16 and opens gate 26 to allow pulses from source HC to pass to the stepping input of the shift register for the second phase of operation in which a single pulse entered from flip-flop 30 passes in turn through each stage giving successive outputs from gates 10.0 &c. These are held open by the signal on line 25. The distributed signals from gates 10.0, 10.1 &c. are applied to stages 13.0, 13.1 &c., some of which are set to "1" and some to "0" so that a reply pattern of 1's and 0's is sent in response to the reception of a valid pair of pulses.
