Abstract

1,158,445. Printing-apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 March, 1967 [5 March, 1966], No. 10392/67. Heading B6C. Apparatus for inking an intaglio printing plate 1 having depressions 2 on its operative surface 1<SP>1</SP> comprises a thin iron sheet 3 supported by means 4, 5 with its lower edge adjacent the surface 1<SP>1</SP> so as to confine dry powdered inking material 8 in the wedge-shaped space between the surface 1<SP>1</SP> and the sheet 3, said sheet being vibrated and the plate 1 being reciprocated vertically so as to fill the depressions 2 with powder. The sheet may be vibrated mechanically or electromechanically. Suitable means for causing electromechanical vibration using a A.C. coil is indicated by numerals 6 and 7. The upper support means 4 holds the sheet rigidly while the lower means 5 contacts one side only of the sheet so as to hold it in a slightly curved state before vibration. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the depressions are formed in a cylindrical surface and the support means are interchanged.
