An aerosol composition for treating oven and like surfaces to effect cleansing thereof and to impart soil-resistant characteristics thereto comprises (a) a liquid hydrophilic phase containing a cleansing agent, (b) a liquid propellant phase containing an agent capable of imparting to the said surface soil-resistant characteristics, and (c) a surface-active agent which is substantially in the hydrophilic phase. The liquid hydrophilic phase (a) may comprise an aqueous solution of an alkali-metal hydroxide and the propellant phase (b) may comprise a dimethyl siloxane polymer in a hydrocarbon or fluorochlorohydrocarbon propellant. Specified surface-active agents are polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene condensates, alkyl aryl polyethers, and modified polyethers, e.g. those having the formula R 1 R 2 R 3 C.NH.(C 2 H 4 O) m SO 3 Na in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are alkyl groups having a total of 11 to 14 carbon atoms and m has a value from 12.5 to 17.5, fatty acid amides, e.g. fatty acid alkanolamides, and the alkali-metal salts of fatty sarcosinates. The composition may also contain a high-boiling solvent capable of dissolving alkali, e.g. glycols or glycol ethers, corrosion inhibitors and/or an alkali-stable perfume.
