Abstract

1,156,639. Fluid cross-bar multi-selector. IMPERIAL-RIY S.R.L. 14 Oct., 1966 [2 Dec., 1965], No. 46026/66. Heading G4P. In a cross-bar multi-selector comprising crossed intersecting conduit rasters 1, 2 in which a branch column 5 leading to an amplifier is provided at each intersection, fluid streams flowing down two selected crossed conduits produce a stream in the corresponding branch conduit which is used in the amplifier to deflect the path of a power stream, and thus operate a desired switch. The conduits 1, 2, and 5 are coplanar and are bored in a plate which is preferably of plastics or ceramic, and the power stream is admitted through a conduit 7 and passes out through conduit 8, or conduit 9 in the operate condition. The stream is reset through a fluid jet through conduits 10, 11. Transducers of the membrane or piston type, responding to the hydraulics to operate switches may be on one side or both sides of the bored plates, and resetting may be achieved by momentarily interrupting the power jet. In a further modification the power jet output from the non-operate conduit is used to make up for pressure losses in the control stream and the arrangement is used for operating simultaneously a number of switches.
