Abstract
1,156,546. Cathode-ray tubes. MATSUSHITA ELECTRONICS CORP. 31 Oct., 1966 [10 Nov., 1965], No. 48744/66. Heading HID. A reinforced type cathode-ray tube comprises a face panel 1, a reinforcing frame 6 and a filler composed of a layer 10 closer to, and at least one layer 9 remote from the front surface of the tube, the former being of a resin of much higher thixotrophy than the latter. Sealing resin 10 may be a thermosetting epoxy resin for example, with an additive such as fine powder silicic acid or calcium carbonate (particle diameter not larger than 4 microns) and of a curing time longer than that of layer 9. In assembly, resin 10 applied at the inwardly flexed front end portion of the reinforcing frame remains in position due to its high thixotropy allowing assembly in a jig arrangement; fitting of frame 6 and subsequent pressure on resin 10 causes it to fill gap 7<SP>1</SP> allowing resin 9, the matrix of which may be of the same type as that of resin 10, to fill the remaining gap. On removal of the tube from the jig, cured resin 9 ensures a rigid assembly while uncured resin 10 forced out on to the face panel may be easily removed.
