Abstract

1,156,417. De-oxygenating liquids. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. 28 Sept., 1967 [28 Sept., 1966], No. 43328/66. Heading B1M. A process for the removal of oxygen from a liquid containing oxygen in solution or suspension comprises bubbling an oxygen stripping gas into a flowing stream of the liquid and inducing turbulent flow in the liquid stream at a point downstream of the point of introduction of the oxygen stripping gas. The oxygen stripping gas may be introduced into the liquid through a perforated pipe, a T junction, or a porous metal or ceramic plug. The turbulent flow in the liquid may be induced by constriction of the flow or by an abrupt change .of direction of flow through a right angle. In examples nitrogen is used to deoxygenate water and fruit juices.
