Tanks and cisterns. - Relates to water troughs or tanks built up of wooden planks and adapted to be readily assembled or taken apart for transport. The invention comprises a trough or tank in which one or more of the side, end, and bottom sections consist of a series of planks arranged edge to edge, and held together, the edges being so formed that the planks lie in different planes or tend to arch, and means being provided to flatten the planks into one plane thereby establishing a tight joint or joints between them. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the bottom, sides, and ends of the trough are each formed of a number of planks of wood, preferably creosoted to obviate absorption of water or cribbing by animals, and arranged edge to edge with tongued and grooved connexions. The boards are secured together by bolts passing through borings therein, as shown at 17 in Fig. 3, and one or more of the edges are slightly bevelled so that, when compressed by the bolts 17, the boards lie in different planes, or adopt an arched formation. Other bolts as shown secure the ends to the bottom and the sides to the ends, the ends being sprung into grooves 24 in the sides, and, as the bolts are tightened up, the boards composing each unit are flattened out into the same plane, thereby establishing a compression at the joints and rendering the device water-tight. A central partition 15 with an opening 15<a> at the bottom may be provided.
