SECTIONAL BOAT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apr. 20, 1920.
Application filed December 23, 1919. Serial No. 347,049.
1 0 (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED J. Lowonn- MILK, acltlzen of the Unlted States, and
.resident of Mount Gilead, in the county of Montgomery and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Sectional Boat, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new sectional boat which can be readily assembled and disassembled; and when disassembled, securely fastened in collapsed form for transportation. It is further an object of my invention to provide in connection with a sectional boat, a novel central freshwater chamber for carrying bait on fishing trips. It is a further object of my invention to provide means for sealing said chamber water-tight when it is desired to utilize it for the accommodation of an e11- gine or other purposes than carrying bait.
I attain the objects of my invention by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings. in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a detail longitudinal section through the freshwater chamber;
Fig. 4 is a similar but enlarged detail longitudinal sectional view through a sealed intermediate boat chamber; and
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the sectional boat in its collapsed form. ready for transpo'rtation.
Like numerals designate like parts in each of the views.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, I provide boat sections 1 and 2. having watertight walls 4 and 3 respectively po sitioned a short distance from the end of sections 1 and 2, and I further provide a transverse rih 5 on extension 13 adapted to engage in a corresponding transverse groove (3 in extension 14 of section 1. Sections 1 and 2 are provided with longitudin'al" out-turned edges 7 and 8 respectively which seat one on the other when the boat is in collapsed relation, as shown in Fig. 5. I further provide on section 2 the extension edge strips 12 as shown, and suitable bolts 9 which may be fastened through members 7 and 8. I may provide a boat cover 10, as illustrated. Extensions 13 and 14 overlap as shown in Fig. 3, thus providing the chamber 15, which, as shown in Fig. 3, may be utilized as a freshwater chamber for keeping live bait, the fit of overlapping sections 13 and 14 not being watertight. lVhen it is not desired to use this intermediate chamber 15 as a freshwater chamber, I provide a suitable channel 11 interposed between members 5 and 6, as shown in Fig. l. When the boat is arranged in collapsed position for transportation, section 2 is secured to section 13, by suitable bolts 17, which are fastened through members 12, 16 and 7, as shown in Fig. 5.
The boat can be folded in the water, as section 1 will float section 2 and all necessary and available hunting and fishing accoutrements.
hat I claim is:
1. A sectional boat comprising a plurality of watertight sections detachably connected to each other and having an intermediate chamber interposed between said sections.
2. In a sectional boat, the combination of watertight sections each having a hull extension, the outer section having a transverse channel depressed therein, and the inner section having a transversely extending projection corresponding to the aforesaid transverse channel, sealing means in the space between said elements, and means for securely bolting the sections together in either attached operative relation or in col lapsed form for transportation, substantially as shown.
ALFRED J. LOWDERMILK.
