Abstract

[Also in Division B8] An indoor goods transporter 1 comprises a platform 4 raisable up an upright 6 by apparatus therein, and a platform 7 raisable up an upright 8 on the platform 4, a steering wheel 3 acting on one of four running wheels 9, 10, 11 and 12 mounted on supports rotatable about vertical axes 13, 14, 15 and 16, and guide elements on the supports engageable with guide rails mounted in or on the floor on each side of the path of the transporter, to steer the transporter automatically where there are guide rails. In an embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2, all the wheels 9-12 are interconnected by rods 19, 17, 18, and the guide elements comprise rollers 20, or sliders (not shown), which are carried by beams 21 rigid with the supports. A contact roller 24 is provided on a contact device 23 mounted on one of the beams 21 or on one of the supports (not shown), and is engageable with a guide rail 22 to cut off the transporter drive, which has to be manually reset. In another embodiment, the rollers 20 are vertically movable and the rails 22 are set into the floor. In a further embodiment, the wheels 9, 10 lie inwardly of the roller rail 22. In yet another embodiment, one of the wheels 11 or 12 is a double wheel which is not steered, but has castors.
