Apparatus for applying a high electric potential to the human body or to the bodies of other animals for therapeutic purposes comprises, in combination and as illustrated in Fig. 2, a base 15 made of an electrically insulative material such as wood, a supervoltage high-frequency transformer mounted on the base, a platform 13 made of an electrically insulative material such as marble and supported by insulators (for example columns 14) in a horizontal position above the transformed, a conductor plate 12 disposed on the upper surface of the platform and adapted to support a living subject 6 placed thereon for therapeutic treatment, and a highfrequency generator 1 having an output 5 connected by lines 7 to the primary winding 9 of the transformer the secondary winding 10 of which has terminal 11 connected to the conductor plate after passing through the platform and terminal 16 earthed at 17. The generator, which as illustrated is provided with a high-frequency current adjuster 3 and an on-off switch 4 for controlling power supplied from a high-voltage power source line P, preferably is capable of producing an output at any output frequency from 100 to 500 kilocycles per second; the generator may include a Hartley oscillator circuit, a Colpitts oscillator circuit or a Pierce G-C connection type oscillator circuit. The transformer, the primary and secondary windings of which are illustrated as being wound overlappingly on a spool 8, preferably is capable of producing an output having any potential from 200 to 4000 kilovolts. The conductive plate, stated to be of metal, preferably is situated over four feet from any electrically grounded part of the apparatus.
