Abstract

1,155,912. Liquid filter. BENDIX CORP. 23 Sept., 1966 [30 Sept., 1965], No. 42661/66. Heading B1D. A filter element for liquid fuels comprises an edge-type assembly of paper washers or helically wound ribbon 30 in a protecting case 26 and compressed by a piston 36 subject to the differential pressure across assembly 30, piston 36 carrying a valve member 42 adapted to close the outlet 40 when accumulating water or solids raises the differential pressure sufficiently. To prevent the valve opening again on reduction of differential pressure, e.g. resuiting from its closure, the piston 36 and Valve member 42 are connected by a soft wire having a deformable S shaped part 46, which straightens out when piston 36 returns to leave the valve closed (Fig. 4, not shown). The valve member 42 and seat 40 include an angle of 15 degrees, so that the valve tends to jam in the closed position. A plurality of such elements are located in a common housing (Fig. 1, not shown).
