Abstract

1,163,251. Oil burner fuel systems. SULZER BROS. Ltd. 4 April, 1968 [4 April, 1967], No. 16303/68. Heading F4T. An oil burner system has at least two groups of parallel-fed burners or at least two parallelfed burners connected by branch feed lines 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>11</SP> to a main feed line 3 and branch return lines 10, 10<SP>1</SP>, 1011 leading to a main return line 11, the main lines having pressure regulating elements 7 and 12 respectively, and has means for switching on or off at least one burner or burner-group, comprising non-return valves 16<SP>1</SP>, 16<SP>11</SP> in the branch return lines and by-pass lines 15<SP>1</SP>, 15<SP>11</SP> each with regulating valves 17<SP>1</SP>, 17<SP>11</SP>, respectively, connected to the branch return lines, each of these lines 15<SP>1</SP>, 15<SP>11</SP> by-passing the non-return valve in its respective return line and also by-passing the pressure regulating element 12. In operation, a pressure-sensitive switch 25 in line 11 responds to changes in pressure in that line caused by a signal fed into an oil-flow control unit 62, thus energizing servomotors 26<SP>1</SP>, 26<SP>11</SP> to operate valves 17<SP>1</SP>, 17<SP>11</SP> respectively which cause shut-off of their respective burners or burner-groups. In a modification, control valves which reverse the fuel flow are provided between the branch feed lines and the branch return lines on one hand and the burners on the other, each burner having an interior valve which opens or closes the burner fuel nozzle according to the direction of the fuel flow.
