Abstract

1,155,711. Igniting devices. RONSON PRODUCTS Ltd. 7 Sept., 1966 [14 Sept., 1965], No. 39269/65. Heading F4F. A cigarette lighter has a reservoir 2 for liquefied butane or other fuel, a reservoir 3 containing a pyrophoric substance and a wire on which are secured beads 9 at spaced intervals, adjacent beads entraining between them a quantity of the pyrophoric substance and carrying it up a seal 10 within which the beads fit closely. The wire is moved step by step by means of a lever 14 and sprocket-wheel 11 and as a space between a pair of beads is brought opposite an aperture 12 in the seal adjacent burner valve 5 the substance ignites spontaneously and then ignites the fuel from valve 5. Beads are sheared by a blade 23 and may fall into a reservoir 4. In a modification the beads 9 form an endless loop which moves in and out of the reservoir 3. In another modification, gas flowing from the tube of a cooker ignition device is ignited, the wire and beads being replaced by an endless loop of nylon having transverse slots.
