A mud flap for mounting behind a motor car wheel, is moulded from synthetic plastics and comprises two curved side pieces 2 joined at a substantial inclination to each other along an edge 4 and joined by a transversely-extending curved from end portion 8, the two side portions forming a smooth interior surface in a longitudinal direction such that flow of water along the interior of the mud flap is unimpeded. The mud-flap is mounted to the car by means of a steel or iron rod 12 securable to the inner side of the car wheel arch by a mounting 20, and to the outer edge of the wheel arch (dotted) by means of a mounting 22 and a screw 26, the rod 12 being passed through, and frictionally held in holes in the side pieces'2 or secured to the side pieces 2 by clamps 14 and angle pieces 16. A further rod 28 is secured to the car bodywork and the mud flap by mountings 30, 32. The rod 12 may be clamped to the top plate 8 (dotted lines). In other embodiments, other mounting frames of bent rod are provided for securement to the rear wall of the car wheel arch. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the mud flap is normally inclined behind a car wheel, in Fig. 4 (not shown), the flap has been further inclined and is cut, and in Fig. 5 (not shown), the flap is horizontal against the car body and the front edge 10 is out to closely fit the tyre cross-section.
