Abstract

1,155,361. Measuring fluid-flow electrically. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. Jan. 16, 1967 [Jan.19, 1966], No. 2516/66. Heading G1N. In a hot wire anemometer, Fig. 3, the resistance and temperature of the wire W, which is connected in series with a resistor R, are maintained constant by a feedback circuit including an amplifier A, the effect of high frequency noise being reduced by connecting the output of the amplifier A to a high pass filter HPF having a cut off frequency greater than the upper limit of the desired frequency response of the anemometer, and using the D.C. output of a detector D feed from the filter to reduce the input signal to A. An amplifier A1 may be used between the filter and the detector. The heating current supplied by the amplifier is a measure of fluid-flow past the wire W. The amplifier A may be transistorized, and the filter circuit, which gives the anemometer a frequency response upper limit of 100 Kc/s, also compensates for temperature dependent variations in amplifier characteristics. The anemometer may detect pulses in a fluid logic system.
