Abstract

1,155,088. Apparatus for X-ray fluoroscopy. YISSUM RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CO. 2 Dec., 1966 [3 Dec., 1965], No. 51446/65. Heading H5R. In an X-ray fluoroscope, the source of X-rays is arranged to emit X-rays intermittently at an adjustable repetition frequency of from 75- 150 times/second in the direction of the fluorescent screen. Preferably, the source is an X-ray tube fitted with a control electrode, e.g. a grid, to render the generation of the X-rays intermittent. Alternatively, the X-ray source may be provided with a mechanical shutter to interrupt the X-ray beam. The repetition frequency, the time fraction for which the X- rays are emitted, and their intensity is preferably variable. The duration of the emission is preferably from 0.3 to 3 milliseconds. The apparatus may be equipped with means for measuring the rate at which radiation is being received through the screen. The apparatus may be used for examining castings and welds, and the apparatus is adjusted so that the operator sees a flickerless fluorescent image of adequate brightness.
