Abstract
1,154,989. Inductors. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 May, 1968, No. 25720/68. Heading H1T. The terminal portions of the wire from which an electrical coil 10 is wound are secured by winding them in a figure-of-eight configuration around pairs of projections, as 4, 5, on the former 1. The tapped inductor assembly shown comprises a moulded polycarbonate former 1 having a cylindrical part 9, around which enamelled copper wire is wound to form the coil, and a trianguloid end block 8. Three pairs of projections are provided, enabling the wire to be secured at its ends and at a tapping point. One projection, 4, of each pair projects axially from the end block at a vertex thereof and the other, 5, projects radially from the cylindrical part of the former. The end block 8 may be inserted in a triangular aperture in a printed circuit board and the tinned terminal portions of the wire soldered to copper solder pads provided at the vertices of the aperture. Ridges 11 on the end block help to support the assembly in the aperture. An iron dust core may be screwed into the threaded bore of the former. The inductance may be varied by varying the number and spacing of the turns of the coil, and by varying the position of the core. The radial projections 5 have sharp edges so that the end of the wire may be severed by drawing it over one of these edges and pulling it until it breaks.
