Abstract
1,154,629. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. W. R. GRACE & CO. 13 June, 1967 [21 June, 1966], No. 27310/67. Heading B5K. [Also in Division B8] Folded flaps on a film-wrapped package are first heated to an " ironing temperature " such that they retain their folded position without being adhered, and the package is then moved to a second station where the flaps are heat sealed at a higher temperature. The " ironing temperature " is sufficiently low not to interfere with sliding of the package. The film may be of unplasticized polyvinyl chloride. The final heat sealing may be effected by a reciprocating die, or the ironing and the heat sealing may be effected at different points in a folding channel maintained at a temperature which increases along the channel.
