Abstract
1,154,599. Electrolytic capacitors. BRUNSWICK CORP. 13 Sept., 1966 [20 Sept., 1965], No. 40796/66. Heading H1M. The anode in an electrolytic capacitor is formed of metal filaments having a generally round cross-section, each having a major crosssectional dimension of 0À5 mil. or under. The filaments may be relatively long, as shown, i.e. of the order of the length of the anode slug, or short (Fig. 4, not shown), and bonded together e.g. by sintering. They may be twisted into a yarn (Fig. 5, not shown) which may be formed into a helix (Fig. 6, not shown) or a double helix (Fig. 7, not shown). Single filaments may be arranged in side-to-side parallel relationship (Fig. 8, not shown), or the twisted yarns may be so arranged. When the filaments are formed into a ribbon a wound capacitor (Fig. 10, not shown) may be formed. The anodes may be used in wet electrolytic capacitors, e.g. having a spacer impregnated with sulphuric acid, or dry, having pyrolytically formed manganese dioxide as the electrolyte. For a non-polar capacitor the counter-electrode may be similarly constructed and anodized.
