A shoot for charging raw materials and alloyed irons into a metallurgical converter comprises an outer pipe 8 in communication with a supply pipe 5 through an opening 12, and an inner pipe 6 having a similar opening 10, said pipe 6 being slidably insertable in the outer pipe 8. The inner pipe 6 is moved by operating means, such as an oil-pressure cylinder 7 to bring the openings 10 and 12 together, whereby the material can be charged into the furnace from the pipe 5.
