Abstract

1,154,444. Adhering strips to boxes; endless conveyers. WEYERHAEUSER CO. 8 Sept., 1966 [24 Sept., 1965], No. 40147/66. Headings B8A and B8F. [Also in Division B5] In a machine 1 for applying adhesive tape 23 to close the flaps 42 of an empty box 37, the tape 23 is bonded to the flaps 42 by pressure applied between an upper conveyer 12 and a pressure plate 20 attracted towards the lower belt of the conveyer 12 by electromagnets 18. The box 37 is carried through the machine on the upper belt 6 of a lower conveyer 5. The flaps 42 are first smoothed into position between a guide 28 and the pressure plate 20. A length of tape 23, cut by a mechanism 31 after it has been moistened at a plate 30 is then applied by a roller 34, the presence of the box 37 being detected by a switch (36), Fig. 4 (not shown), mounted on the guide rails 10, which initiates the tape feed.
