Abstract
1,154,336. Washing granular materials. SOC. NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE. 10 Aug., 1966 [12 Aug., 1965], No. 35890/66. Heading B2H. Apparatus for washing and grading swarf produced when drilling rock, for subsequent geological analysis, comprises a vertical washing container, Fig. 2, open at its upper end and having a valve 2 at the lower end. An intake reservoir 3 is provided at the upper end and a collection casing 4 is sealed to the lower end of the container having lateral connectors 5 ... 5" to a pressurised water source and to cups 7, 7' arranged below the valve 2. Nozzles 8, 9 open into the washing container, each having a closure member, and being connectible to the pressurized water source. In operation, swarf is supplied by a conduit (not shown) to the container with water via the connections 5 ... 5"'. When the container 1 is full, fine water jets are supplied via the nozzles 8, 9, which are so angled that turbulence and stirring is effected in the zones 10a ... d and uniform laminer flow is effected in zones 11a ... d. Graded samples are withdrawn by operation of the valve 2 into cups 7, 7' which are successively presented by rotation of a knob 14. In a further embodiment, several containers are arranged in cascade (Fig. 3, not shown). The apparatus may be controlled by a programmed clockwork mechanism
