Abstract
1,154,214. Casting-machines. UBE INDUSTRIES Ltd. 13 July, 1966 [10 Aug., 1965], No. 31548/66. Heading B3F. [Also in Division B8] Measures of molten metal are conveyed from a holding or melting pan 3, e.g. to a pivotable funnel 29 over the inlet sleeve 30 of a die-casting machine, in a ladle 4 suspended from a pivot 8 on an arm 9, driven by an hydraulic motor 18 to swing to a pouring position B while the ladle is kept from tipping by a cable or chain 13, 14 passing around sprocket-wheels 7, 11 (or a rope or belt around pulleys) the latter wheel 11 being unrotatable and fixed to a bracket 12 pivoted on a shaft 22. With the arm 9 in position B, the ladle 4 is aligned with the pivot shaft 22 so that when a piston-and-cylinder 24, 27 pivots the bracket 12, Fig. 3 (not shown), the ladle 4 merely tips for pouring whilst the free arm-end with its sprocket-wheel 7 swings down around the ladle. The funnel 29 pivots to the position E shown, at the completion of pouring, to prevent extraneous matter falling into the inlet sleeve 30. If the arm 9 swings in and out of the melt pan 3 in a vertical plane the ladle conveys its full volume of metal but it may be swung in an inclined plane, determined by the position of the bracket 12, to convey smaller measures, although, to avoid spilling, it is swung over (to the pouring position B) in a vertical plane.
