A bulk storage tank for liquids is surrounded by a metal shield 1 for receiving any seepage therefrom, the annular gap 11 therebetween being provided, if desired, with a float 17 or a series of float elements. The tank installation above may be provided with leak detecting means, a catwalk and valve means, see Fig. 2 (not shown).
