Abstract

1,153,991. Rotary pumps. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. June 29, 1966 [April 1, 1965], No.13965/65. Heading F1F. A rotary flexible vane variable delivery pump comprises a vaned rotor 1, Fig.2, mounted on and rotatable with a spindle 2 bearingly supported in a base-plate 7 on which a pump body 3 having a tubular portion 4 is adjustably mounted by means of an adjusting screw 18 and opposed spring 19 and screws 16 and elongated slots 17 to vary pump delivery and alter direction of flow. Circumferential inlet and outlet ports 9, 10 in the tubular body portion 4 separated at their ends by at least the width of two vanes taper outwardly in width and depth to a maximum cross-section at diametrically opposite inlet and outlet connections. The vanes when the rotor is in mid-position are in radial compression and the vanes and boss 13 under slight axial compression between the baseplate 7 and an integral end-cap of the body 3 to improve sealing. As shown in Fig.2, with the body 3 adjusted to the right and the rotor rotating in direction of arrow 21 fluid enters through inlet 10 and is discharged through outlet 9. With the body 3 adjusted to the left and rotor rotation in the same direction 9 is the inlet and 10 the outlet.
