115,362. Fairweather, W., (Singer Manufacturing Co.). Sept. 22, 1917. Button-attaching machines.-The button-clamping levers 6 are formed with shoulders 7 and supporting ledges 8, and are provided with springs 17, the ends 20 of which are adapted to press the buttons on the ledges 8 and are bent downwardly to enter the space between the shoulders 7. The ledges 8 extend slightly in advance of the forward sides of the parts 20 of the springs which are upturned to provide a lead for the insertion of a button. The levers 6 are actuated to close on the buttons by a spring-controlled slide 12 carrying a plate 11 with cam-slots 10 which engage pins 9 on the levers. The limits of movement required for a given size of button are normally set by a stop lever 24 and, in order to enable the operator to move the button-clamping levers without disturbing the stop lever, a laterally projecting fingerpiece 31 is secured to the slide 12.
