IPULLING-OVER MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. '7, 1909.
Application filed July 30, 1909. Serial No. 510,377.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, HEINRICH WALTHER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and resident of Frankforton the Main, Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pulling-Over Machines, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to a pulling over machine of the kind provided with pincers for the shoe upper and with a sole presser, and has for its object an improved construction of such machines.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which- Figure l is an elevation partly in section: Fig. 2 a plan of the same, while Figs. 3 to 5 show diagrammatically different operative positions of the various members of the machine.
Referring to the drawings a gear wheel b mounted in the machine frame a actuates a cam disk c against which, on one side by means of a spring f, is pressed the projection cl2 on the sole presser e which is axially movable in the machine frame, and on the other side a projection Z1 on a longitudinally movable bar t. The bar it carries a fork g, each prong of which has at its end a guide i for a screw s which is arranged in one arm of each lever 7c. These levers are mounted in the machine frame at t and each carries on its other arm the jaw m of a pair of pincers, the other jaw n of which is pressed by a spring o against a slide block p on a bar g which is longitudinally movable in the jaw a. The bar g is guided in the fork g and has at its end a spring r which serves as a support and which is unstressed in the open position of the pincers shown in Fig. l. One of the pairs of pincers (preferably the upper pair) is adapted to be vclosed by hand by means of levers' u.
The modus operands' of the machine is as follows z- After the last shoe upper thereon is mounted on the last support c on the machine frame, and the upper drawn at the toe by means of the lever u into the upper pair of pincers, the gear wheelis operated by means of a treadle or hand lever. The cam disk c with the cam face c1 first moves the lever g in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1; the springs r are stronger than the springs o so that the bar g. is moved in the same l direction and the jaw n is pressed by the cam face on the slide block p toward the other jaw and the upper is gripped (Fig. 3). Thereupon the cam face c2 on the cam disk c acts on the sole presser and moves it forward in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1, so that the last is pressed into the upper (Fig. 4). The fork g under the action of the springs r then receives a further motion, the screws s are raised by the inclined faces on their guides z' and the pincers are turned inward; the cam faces c1, c2 of the disk c are so shaped that during this motion and for a short time thereafter lthe sole presser c moves back again as far as the inward movement of the pincers allows; the pincers thus draw toward them the upper which is held by the sole presser in a position of tension (Fig. 5). For the purpose of nailing on the upper the machine is stopped; after again setting it in motion, by moving back the fork g and the bar Q, the pincers are turned outward and opened.
The novel feature of the machine essentially consists in the pincers being adapted to turn but not being axially movable, and in drawing the upper under tension toward them on the pulling over action taking place in consequence of the yielding of the sole presser.
The screws s allow the position of the pincers to be varied according to the size of the last used.
I-Iaving described my invention what `I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is Pulling over machine comprising in combination with a last, pincers and a sole presser, a cam disk mounted in the machine frame cam faces on said cam disk one face actuating the sole presser the other opening and closing the pincers, means for actuating said cam disk and means for causing said pincers to turn inward as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HEINRICH WALTI-IER.
