Abstract

1,153,191. Wire tensioners; wire connections. H.M. POSTMASTER GENERAL. 9 Feb., 1967 [11 Feb., 1966], No. 6160/66. Heading F2G. [Also in Divisions D1 and E1] A telegraph pole, e.g., is stayed by a wire 10 which is passed through a generally longitudinal passageway 8-9 (Fig. 1, not shown) in a head 1 fixed to a stay rod 6, tensioned by a device 11, and attached to the head by a known wire grip 20 (Fig. 5, not shown) having a loop 21 which passes through a transverse eye 2 (Fig. 1, not shown) in the head. The head may, as shown, be pivotally attached to the stay rod, and the upper transverse part 3 (Fig. 1) of the head may have a larger diameter longitudinal bore therethrough (Fig. 6, not shown) whereby the stay rod can be passed through the head. Alternatively, the stay rod may be rigidly attached to the head, by welding, screwing or bolting (Fig. 8, not shown). The device 11 is attached to the stay rod 6 by a retaining pin 12; the wire is gripped between a knurled wheel 17 and a manually operated eccentric 18, and tensioned by a lever 13 via a spring-loaded pawl 15 and a ratchet-wheel 16.
