Abstract

1,153,179. Preventing fouling by cathodic protection. INTERNATIONAL PAINTS Ltd. Sept. 9, 1966 [Sept. 20, 1965] , No. 40084/65. Heading C7E. Fouling of a ship's cooling water system is prevented by passing an electric current from an anode of the impressed current type e.g. platinized titanium rod mounted in or adjacent an inlet, e.g. a port comprising an inlet grid made up from corrugated strips of polyester glass fibre, of the cooling water system and insulated from the ship's hull which acts as a cathode, to electrolytically generate chlorine from the ambient salt or brackish water and carry it into the system.
