Polyamides and polyesteramides are stabilized by addition of a metal complex of a compound of formula where n=1-3 and each benzene ring may be further substituted. The complex may be of a transition metal, e.g. Ni, Cu, Co or Cr. The benzene rings may be alkylated and the metal may additionally be complexed with other ligands, e.g. alkylamines. Complexes specified include bis - (2 - hydroxy - 4 - octylphenyl) - sulphide-nickel complex, bis-(hydroxy-octylphenyl)-sulphone-nickel complex, bis-(hydroxynonyl - phenyl) - sulphone - manganese complex, bis - (hydroxy - dodecyl - phenyl) - sulphone-copper complex, bis-(2-hydroxy-4-octylphenyl) - sulphide - copper complex, bis - (2 - hydroxy - 4 - octyl - phenyl) - sulphide cobalt complex and bis - (2 - hydroxy - 4 - octylphenyl) - sulphide - n - butylamine - nickel complex. 0À005-5% of the complex may be incorporated into the polyamide by chip coating. TiO 2 and other stabilizers may also be present, e.g. phenols such as 1,1,3-tris-(2- methyl - 4 - hydroxy - 5 - tert. - butyl - phenyl)- butane and thiophosphites, such as trilauryl trithiophosphite. The products may be made into fibres and films.
