Abstract

1,151,377. Random number generators. CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED. 23 May, 1966 [21 May, 1965], No. 22885/66. Heading G4D. Trains of randomly-occurring pulses are produced at output terminals 1-10 from an input train of evenly-spaced but randomly occurring " 1 " and " 0 " pulses on terminals 111, 112, the probability of pulses at the terminals 1-10 being different and the sum of the probabilities being 1. The arrangement is effectively reset after every ten " 1 "and " 0 " input pulses so that every ten consecutive input " 1's " and " 0's " may be regarded as a tenbit binary number N which is applied to logic comparison circuits 31-39. The other input to each comparison circuit is a repetitive, different sequence of " 1's " and " 0's " on terminals 211, 212-291, 292, each sequence being regarded as a further ten-bit binary number Vi. Circuits 31-39 each provide an output indicating whether N#Vi or N<Vi to set a corresponding bi-stable circuit 51-59 in one state or the other. An indication of the interval Vi to Vi + 1 in which the number N lies is obtained from logic circuits 602 in response to an interrogating pulse 14 and a gating pulse 15. If the range of 2<SP>10</SP> possible values of N is divided into unequal intervals by Vi, then the probability of N lying in an interval Vi to Vi + 1 is different for each interval and the probability of an output pulse at terminal 1-10 corresponds. The various probabilities are selected by choice of Vi. Transistor circuits for each functional unit of the arrangement are described.
