A distribution system comprises an insulating tube A with a longitudinal slit 28 whose edges are encased in channel-shaped conductors 16, 18 for receiving between them contact plugs, the conductors 16, 18 being in respective contact with conducting inserts 22 which are embedded in the tube. In forming the tube, opposite side edges of a planar insulating strip 10 are welded to lateral strips 12, 14 which comprise layers of copper or aluminium wire 22 sandwiched between plastics layers, the conductors 16, 18 then being secured to the outer edges of the composite strip 12-10-14, which is finally rolled to a circular, rectangular or triangular crosssection. The tube may be support-mounted by a rope (63, Fig. 6, not shown) which passes longitudinally through an apertured rib 13, or alternatively by nuts and bolts which engage further apertures 11 in the rib. Insulating wedges (30, Fig. 4, not shown) inserted in the slot 28 keep the conductors 16, 18 in spacedrelation and slots 24 render the tube flexible. The inserted contact plugs, which are pushfitted between the conductors 16, 18, may be the wedge-shaped bases (42, Fig. 8, not shown) of capless lamps, in which case the lamp terminal leads (44, 46) engage the conductors 16, 18. Alternatively, they are insulating wedges (52, Fig. 7, not shown) carrying wire leads for engaging the conductors 16, 18.
