1,151,203. Cylinder locks. HUWIL-WBRKE HUGO WILLACH & SOHNE. 18 Aug., 1966, No. 36973/66. Addition to 1,151,202. Headings E2A. A cylinder lock mechanism comprises a stationary outer cylinder, 54 an inner cylinder 52 journalled rotatably in said outer cylinder and having a central cavity for the axial insertion of a permanently magnetizec key 51 and means 51a for coupling the same with it for rotation wher fully inserted, a coupling member 53 rotatably journalled in said outer cylinder and having an extensior carrying a follower 55 for operating the bolt of a bolt mechanism, a coup ling body 58 coupled rotationally to and axially slidably with respect to said inner cylinder, said coupling body and coupling member having on their juxtapositioned end faces complementary projections 58b and recesses 53a capable of being interengaged by an axial movement of said coupling body towards said coupling member, a forward 56 and a rear 57 annular body, coaxial with said inner cylinder and each having on their juxtaposed end faces each a north pole and a south pole spaced by the same angle on equal pitch circles, the said forward annular body being coupled to said inner cylinder in a manner allowing limited rotation relative thereto and the said rear annular body being coupled to said coupling body against relative axial movement, wherein in the locking condition the poles of opposite polarity of the said end faces are substantially juxtaposition and by their mutual attraction keep said coupling body and coupling member disengaged, and wherein in the wall of the bore of said forward annular body permanently magnetized poles are arranged spaced axially the same distance and of a polarity opposite to permanently magnetized poles in a correct key 51 which in the fully inserted condition of said key are angularly spaced from said poles in the wall of the bore of said forward annular body by an angle equal to that between the poles on the end face thereof, so that by the magnetic attraction between the poles of said key and the poles of said' bore wall overcoming that between the poles on the end faces of the said forward and rear annular bodies the forward annular body is turned into a position in which the poles on its end face are substantially juxtapositioned to poles of the same polarity on the end face of the rear annular body and by magnetic repulsion move the same and the coupling body into engagement of the latter with the said coupling member, so that by turning the said key the bolt mechanism can be operated. Rotation of the forward and annular body is limited by a lug which is engageable in a groove in the inner cylinder. The rear annular body is also made rotatable relative to the coupling body, the rotation being limited by a lug of the coupling body engaging a groove in the annular body; this provision for rotation is made so that a pass key can be used, the pass key having magnet poles which co-operate with magnet poles in the bore of the rear annular body to rotate the said body through the predetermined angle so that like end face poles of the two annular bodies become aligned and the rear body is repelled from the forward body so that the coupling body engages the coupling member.
