1,151,145. Preparing hydrogen electrolytically. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. March 20, 1967 [March 30, 1966], No. 12904/67. Heading C7B. Pure hydrogen is prepared by electrolyzing, preferably in a mercury cathode cell, water, e.g. a solution of an inorganic ammonium salt such as 20% NH 4 Cl or 40% NR 4 NO 3 , to which is added, preferably as powder, semi-conductor material, e.g. Bi 2 Te 3 , Te, InAs, CdSb, Ge, Si, CdTe, ZnS or CoS. The cell may have a porous fused glass plate diaphragm and an anode of C or Ni.
