Abstract

1,151,105. Endoscope. VANN BROS Ltd. 21 July, 1967 [21 July, 1966], No. 32868/66. Heading E5R [Also in Division G2] A light carrier particularly for use in surgical apparatus comprises a rigid tube 10 packed with longitudinaly arranged glass fibres into which light is directed by a tubular prism 20 having a totally reflecting surface 21 and a planar exit surface 22. Light is supplied to prism 20, which is located by a screw 25, by a flexible tube 32 containing glass fibres which is attached to a prism mount 14 and to a lamp housing. The light carrier may be used to replace a conventional lamp at the distal end of bronchoscopes, oesophagoscopes, laryngoscopes, sigmoidoscopes, protectoscopes, cystoscopes, urethroscopes, thoracoscopes and retractors.
