Abstract

1,254,903. Endoscopes. WELCH ALLYN Inc. 28 Oct., 1969 [12 Nov., 1968], No. 52823/ 69. Heading A5R. [Also in Division G2] The tubular body 11 of an endoscope 10 including a light conducting member 20 is formed in two halves each of which has an internal wall which forms with the wall of the body and groove, these grooves cooperating to hold the light conducting member 20 there between. This member extends along the speculum portion 12 of the endoscope to a point 21 short of the distal end 22 of the instrument. The endoscope also has a proximal portion 14 separated from the speculum portion by a shield 13. A tubular portion 15 extends angularly from the proximal portion and has a squared end 16 which carries a handle 17 containing a light source. The light conducting member extends through the tubular portion 15 and terminates in a light receiving face (23) Fig. 3 not shown. The light conducting member may be circular in cross section, or it may be flattened, Fig. 11 not shown, and is either a rod or a bundle of glass or plastic fibres clad with transparent material.
