Abstract

1,151,053. Moulding artificial wood facing. J. W. TONKES, and K. R. TONKES. 9 May, 1966 [18 May, 1965], No. 20351/66. Heading B5A. In a method of producing an artificial wood facing, a natural wood face is cleaned to accentuate its grain structure, a release agent is applied thereto followed by a gel coat of a resin, e.g. a polyester resin to which a backing layer or layers is applied, e.g. resin-glass cloth or resin-paper layers. The laminate is stripped from a mould to which a wax release coating is applied, followed by a resin coating, e.g. a polyester resin. Backing layers are then applied as in the preparation of the mould. The laminated artificial wood facing is then removed. The resin layer or layers applied to the mould may be coloured or the hollows of the facing may have a colouring material applied thereto.
