Abstract

1,150,573. Photographic light-sensitive materials. EASTMAN KODAK CO. June 30, 1966 [July 1, 1965], No. 29373/66. Addition to 1,098,466. Heading G2C. The sensitivity of a photographic material comprising a support bearing a layer of a lightsensitive composition which is sensitizable with a noble metal sensitizer but which is not a silver salt emulsion, is increased by incorporating therein a noble metal sensitizer and "labile selenium", i.e. colloidal Se or a Se compound which is capable of forming Ag 2 Se in aq. AgNO 3 soln. Preferred labile Se compounds are those having a C-Se double bond e.g. selenoamider, selenoketones, selenocarboxylic acids and estos, selenoureas and selenoisocyanates. Conventional Au, Pt and Pd noble metal sensitizers are specified. The photographic material may be a vapour deposited silver halide, or a thallous, cuprous or lead halide, or other light sensitive heavy metal salt emulsion. The sensitizers may be incorporated into vapour deposited layers by overcoating with gelatine and washing in a solution of the sensitizer, and into emulsions by adding a solution of the sensitizers thereto.
