Abstract

1,150,281. Firelighters. KAY BROS. Ltd. 4 May, 1966 [4 May, 1965], No. 18762/65. Heading C5G. Copper compounds are employed as catalysts in firelighters to reduce the ignition temperature of carbon. The catalysts may be incorporated in the composition of the firelighter, or may impregnate absorbent combustible material contained in a package of firelighters, or attached to one or more surfaces of the firelighter, or may be incorporated in a thermoplastic coating applied to one or more surfaces of the firelighter. The copper compound may be attached directly, e.g. by adhesive, to the firelighter. Compounds specified are copper chloride, sulphate, acetylacetonate and oleate, and a halogen, e.g. an alkali metal chloride, may be included in the firelighter. Firelighter is defined as a composition composed of readily ignitable materials for igniting solid fuels such as coal and coke. Firelighter compositions specified include wood flour and paraffin wax, wood flour and kerosene, and urea formaldehyde and kerseone.
